3-3-3 Protocol

The 3-3-3 Traumatic Exposure Protocol is a standardized approach to responding to traumatic stress exposure. It allows us to normalize effects, assess for long-term trauma, and ensure that the individual is supported in their return to baseline.

This system allows us to:

  • Normalize stress responses that aren’t cause for alarm

  • Recognize when an individual is at high risk for long-term stress injury, so we can refer them to definitive care at the right time

  • Make sure all individuals have access to meaningful support without requiring them to relive the incident

Supporting a teammate who was exposed to traumatic stress
is intimidating, and a little training can go a long way.

Our online course on Incident Support for Traumatic Stress will equip your team with the tools to assess for traumatic stress exposure, follow up with individuals exposed, and know when to refer them to a clinician for more definitive care.

This course is recommended for Resilience Team members, clinician partners, and anyone who may step into the role of supporting individuals after major incidents.

The 3-3-3 protocol is best implemented by a Resilience Team or similar structure. We’re here to help you set up structure so you’re ready when a major incident occurs. To learn more, click here.
